ASHTAR
for Theatre Productions and Training
Second Level:
To provide the teachers with a comprehensive training
program that views and deals with drama as an important part of the
school curriculum. This is based on preparing and forming teachers in
charge of teaching drama at schools, on the one hand, and involving
them in both the learning and the teaching of drama through production,
on the other.
ASHTAR trained school-teachers and prepared them to be drama
trainers for students whether as part of the curriculum or as an extra
curricular activity. These teachers follow a two-year set program that
brings about artistic theatre cognition in schools. It is divided into two
stages that vary between intensive direct training at the hands of local
or foreign experts, and direct work with students throughout the year
under constant supervision of ASHTAR’s trainers. By the end of the
program, the trainee obtains an official certificate that qualifies her to
teach drama at schools.
Also, ASHTAR had and still has constant close contact with official
educational institutions. It aims at enhancing drama in the Palestinian
curriculum through the institution’s participation in preparing the initial
drama training plans and lately through including public and other
schoolteachers and supervisors in the Drama Teachers Training Program.
